The St. Croix Eyecon is a walleye-dedicated spinning and casting series built on SCII carbon fiber blanks with the Fortified Resin System. It is among St. Croix's best-selling walleye series and is technique-mapped to specific presentations, each rod in the lineup corresponds to a named walleye technique (VERTICAL JIG, JIG-N-RIG, SNAP JIG, CRANKIN', DRIFT-N-FLOAT, etc.) visible in the model specs. The target angler is a serious walleye angler who understands presentation-specific rod requirements. Not built for bass or general multi-species use despite the overlapping lengths and powers.
MSRP ranges $120–175. Materials include SCII carbon fiber with FRS, hybrid guide trains (combining stainless and aluminum oxide rings) designed to reduce braid noise, premium cork split-grip handles with technique-tailored foregrips, and nylon reel seats with EVA hardware. The hybrid guide train is a specific walleye-fishing choice: it reduces the high-frequency vibration when braided line passes through the guides during long drifts. Two-piece variants (suffix "2") of many models appear alongside single-piece, allowing travel-friendly options with no performance compromise per St. Croix.
The series is 17 spinning / 1 casting. Lengths span 5'8" to 8'. Power range: L through H, the H model (EYS58HF) is a short, stiff heavy-metal jigging rod. Extra-fast action models cover vertical jigging and slip-float presentations; moderate and moderate-fast rods cover crankbait and snap-jig techniques. The 7'1" models (EYS71MF/EYS71MMF) target jig-and-rap jigging and rip-cranking for open-water walleye. The 8' ML two-piece (EYS80MLF2) is the longest rod for drift and float applications in high-current situations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
HEAVY METAL technique designation. Short, stiff, and powerful for vertical jigging blade lures and heavy jig heads in deep water. The only H-power rod in the series and unlike the rest in application.
VERTICAL JIG technique on a compact 6'3" blank. The XF action maximizes sensitivity for detecting bottom contact and subtle bites on light jig heads, suited to boat fishing over specific structure.
The lone casting rod in an otherwise all-spinning series. BOUNCE-N-TROLL technique, trolling and bouncing bottom rigs for open-water walleye, where a baitcasting setup provides better line control and rod-in-holder balance.
RIP-N-RAP technique: ripping crankbaits and aggressive jigging. The wider line weight range (6-20 lb) and 7'1" length handle both mono and braid setups for aggressive, reaction-based presentations.
Longest rod in the series and two-piece only. DRIFT-N-FLOAT technique: long-distance float or live-bait drift presentations in current where rod reach and line mending matter.
