The Legend Surf is St. Croix's flagship surf series, made for dedicated surfcasters made for striped bass, bluefish, and other surf species from beaches, jetties, and rocky shorelines. The lineup spans compact 7-foot inshore sticks to 12-foot heavy-class distance casters, covering everything from light plug work to throwing large metal and chunk rigs into the wash. Blanks are built on SCIV high-modulus/high-strain carbon fiber with IPC (Integrated Poly Curve) for smooth taper transitions, ART reinforcing carbon to prevent ovaling, TET (Taper Enhancement Technology) for improved action, and FRS (Fortified Resin System) for a reported 33% strength increase over standard resin.
Two-piece models use offset slim-profile ferrules. Guides are Fuji K-Series KW tangle-free surf guides with slim SiC rings and titanium frames, fully corrosion-proof. Handles use neoprene overlay over nylon. Carries a 15-year warranty. The 12 models split into 2 casting and 10 spinning. Spinning runs from a 7' M/MF entry-level jetty tool up through 9' M-power moderate-action models, a 10' M, several 10'6" and 11' MH options, and two 12-foot heavies, one MH (3-8oz) and one H (6-16oz) for maximum distance or heavy bottom work.
Casting models are both MH (10'6" and 11') for surf plugging with braid.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
One-piece 7-footer for jetty, pier, or inlet work where a short, quick-loading stick is preferred over a full surf blank. Lure range suits medium swimmers and small metals.
One-piece 8-foot utility model. Steps up lure ceiling to 3oz, useful for larger plugs and heavier metal, while remaining manageable in tighter surf environments.
Moderate (not MF) 9-footer for anglers who want more loading and forgiveness on the cast; works well for weighted plastics and larger swimmers that benefit from a slower tip.
The only two casting models in the series; 10'6" version suited to conventional-reel surf anglers throwing plugs and metals in the 2-6oz range from open beach.
Longer casting model for big-water conventional setups. Steps line class to 15-40lb and lure ceiling to 8oz, suited to heavier plugs and increased casting distance over the 10'6".
Series ceiling. Built for maximum-distance bait casting, heavy chunks, or large metal. 20-60lb line range suggests braided main lines. Distinct purpose from all other spinning models in the lineup.
