The St. Croix Panfish Series is a technique-optimized spinning rod lineup made for crappie, bluegill, perch, and related panfish species. It is built for anglers who require sensitivity and light-lure capability at a moderate price point, outside the budget product lane, but positioned below the Avid Panfish tier. The series covers a wide range of techniques from bobber fishing and light jig casting to dock shooting, with action and length choices that correspond to specific approaches instead of being interchangeable.
Blanks are SCII graphite with SCVI reinforcements, using Fortified Resin System (FRS) technology for improved flexural strength at reduced weight. SeaGuide Atlas Performance guides with stainless steel rings and PVD-coated tip-tops handle the light line classes. Grips are premium cork in split-grip configuration on shorter models and full cork on the long 8' and 9' crappie pole entries. The lineup is all spinning, Casting models is absent. The full range of actions from M to XF reflects the technique spread from bobber/live-bait work to sensitive jig fishing.
Lengths run 5'0" to 9'0". The 5'–6'9" models at UL–L power are the core panfish tools for lake and stream fishing. The 7'–7'3" ML-XF models extend into heavier crappie jig applications and dock shooting. The 8' and 9' two-piece (suffix "2") models with L-MF action are light crappie poles for vertical presentation alongside docks and brush piles, the two-piece format keeps them transportable.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model with moderate action, designed for bobber and live-bait fishing where a softer tip absorbs the strike and doesn't pull small hooks. The 5' length suits fishing from kayaks, small boats, or tight shoreline access points.
Extra-fast action at L power is a dock-shooting configuration, the stiff tip loads quickly for skipping jigs under overhanging structure, then recovers fast for hook-setting. A narrower lure ceiling than the ML models keeps it oriented to small jigs.
Long two-piece crappie pole for vertical presentation alongside brush piles and dock pilings. The moderate-fast action gives some shock absorption when pulling fish up from depth. Two-piece format makes it transportable without a rod tube.
Maximum reach in the series, 9' gives access to crappie holding tight to vertical structure from a boat positioned several feet away. Matched specs to the 8' model; the length difference drives the choice based on water depth and structure position.
