The St. Croix Physyx is a technique-specific tournament bass rod made for anglers who want precise action tailoring and premium componentry at a sub-$450 price point. Casting and spinning models cover the main freshwater bass applications from finesse spinning with drop shot and ned rig through reaction baits, flipping, and frog fishing. The Physyx is positioned above the Mojo Bass and below the Legend series in St. Croix's US-made lineup. Most models use SCIV+ blanks, a blend of SCIV and SCVI carbon fiber tuned for balance between sensitivity and strength.

The PHXC72HM is specifically marked as an iACT Glass model, using a SCIV+/linear S-glass hybrid for a traditional glass-feel action suited to treble-hook lures. Technology inclusions are extensive: IPC mandrel contouring, ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology), TET (Taper Enhancement Technology), and FRS (Fortified Resin System). The TRIGON Carbon handle and reel seat use molded carbon fiber for direct blank contact; titanium-frame SiC guides appear on all models. 15-year warranty. Made in USA.

The 16-model lineup divides into eight casting (6'8"–7'5") and eight spinning (6'3"–7'3"). Three casting models at 7'3"–7'5" carry 14–65 lb line ratings showing braid-specific applications for flipping and frogging. Two spinning models (PHXS63MLXF, PHXS73MLXF) and one casting (PHXC68MXF) use extra-fast action with light lures for finesse work. The lone iACT Glass moderate model (PHXC72HM) handles crankbaits and chatterbaits.

A closer look at notable models.

PHXS63MLXF Spinning · 6'3" · ML · XF action

The shortest spinning model at 6'3" with extra-fast action and ML power. Suited for close-quarters finesse work, dock skipping, tight-cover drop shot, or small-bait spinning where a shorter, snappier blank gives casting precision.

PHXC72HM Casting · 7'2" · H · M action

The only iACT Glass model in the lineup, a SCIV+/S-glass hybrid. Heavy power with moderate action provides the load-and-release feel preferred for crankbaits, bladed jigs, and other treble-hook reaction baits where premature tip pressure causes missed fish.

PHXC73MHF Casting · 7'3" · MH · F action

The 14–65 lb line ceiling indicates this is built for braided line. At MH/fast, it serves jig fishing, Texas-rigged plastics, and frog work where hook-setting speed into braid is required and 65 lb max braid handles heavy cover.

PHXC74HF Casting · 7'4" · H · F action

Three-piece construction (noted in spec table) at 7'4" with H power allows for heavy flipping and punching with heavier tungsten. The broader lure range (up to 1.5 oz) handles larger punch rigs and creature baits in heavy vegetation.
