The St. Croix Physyx Casting is a USA-made, technique-specific freshwater bass series at the upper end of St. Croix's domestic lineup, positioned above Legend Bass but below Legend Tournament in price tier. It is made for serious tournament and avid recreational bass anglers who want per-technique rod optimization, a carbon-fiber grip system, and a 15-year warranty. The Physyx is outside the general-purpose stick lane; each model is calibrated for a defined presentation. Blanks are SCIV+ carbon fiber (blend of SCIV and SCVI moduli with IPC, ART, and FRS technologies for consistent taper, hoop strength, and resin uniformity).
Models designed for crankbaits and reaction baits use iACT Glass blanks, a hybrid layup of SCIV+ and 100% linear S-glass, to add forgiveness and prevent ripping treble hooks on the strike. All other models are straight SCIV+. The TRIGON molded carbon-fiber handle and DYNAMIX reel seat are direct-transmit designs, no cork or EVA over the blank seat. Titanium guides with SiC rings throughout, braid-compatible. 15-year warranty, made in Park Falls, Wisconsin. Nine casting rods, all 7'–7'6", predominantly MH power across multiple actions (MF, XF, M).
Two heavy-power models (PHXC73HXF and PHXC76HMF) carry 14–65 lb line ratings, these are designated for braided-line techniques such as frog fishing and flipping; the XF action on the 7'3" and MF on the 7'6" reflect differing hook-set priorities. Action split: four moderate-fast, three moderate, two fast/extra-fast.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Medium power with moderate action and 8–14 lb line is the crankbait slot. The iACT Glass blank (hybrid S-glass) is likely used here to absorb the initial bite and prevent premature hook set on treble-hook reaction baits.
65 lb line ceiling and XF action point to a hollow-body frog or punch-rig model. The 7'3" length and H power deliver the hook-set stroke and leverage needed to move fish out of heavy vegetation cover quickly.
The 2 oz ceiling and 14–65 lb line at 7'6" with MF action covers big swimbaits and heavy punching. The softer MF action versus the 73HXF's XF suggests this is intended for swimbait presentations where the rod needs to load before the hook sets.
