The St. Croix Premier Musky is St. Croix's mid-tier musky rod lineup, sitting between the entry-level Mojo Musky and the high-end Legend Tournament Musky. It is built for anglers who cast large musky lures, bucktails, jerkbaits, large swimbaits, surface walkers, across extended sessions on big-water musky fisheries in the Great Lakes, upper Midwest, and Canadian shield lakes. Thirteen models cover the full range of musky lure sizes and casting styles. Blanks are SCII carbon with St. Croix's Fortified Resin System (FRS) and Taper Enhancement Technology (TET), which refines action and improves lure control during casting and retrieve.
Guides are Kigan Master Hand 3D with aluminum-oxide rings and black frames; the top guide is Kigan Master Hand 3D with SiC ring. Handles are premium cork with Fuji reel seat with frosted silver hood. The series carries a 5-year warranty and is made in Park Falls, Wisconsin. All models use 65–130 lb braid (likely PE braid on heavy leaders), a standard musky rigging choice for abrasion resistance and zero stretch on hooksets. All 13 models are casting rods (11) or spinning rods (2), ranging 7'6"–8'6".
Power ratings are MH, H, and XH. The XH 8'6" (SCPC86XHF, 6–12 oz) is the heavy topwater and rubber-bait specialist. Most H and MH models are fast action; one 8' H model is moderate action (SCPC80HM), designed for treble-hook lures where a softer tip reduces lever leverage during the fight. Two 2-piece models (SCPC710MHF2, SCPC86MHF2) add travel convenience.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest and lightest-lure casting model at 7'6" MH. Suited for lighter-weight musky lures, inline bucktails, smaller topwater walkers, where fatigue reduction over a long day matters. The MH power gives enough backbone for hooksets without the mass of an H or XH blank.
Two-piece travel-convenient version of a 7'10" MH musky casting rod. Lure range of 1–3 oz covers mid-weight bucktails and jerkbaits. The 2-piece configuration (F2 suffix) makes it viable for vehicle transport without a rod vault.
The only moderate-action model in the series. M action is a deliberate choice for treble-hooked lures such as large jerkbaits and glide baits, the parabolic bend reduces the lever advantage that can pull trebles during head shakes. Wide 1–8 oz lure range makes it the most versatile rod in the lineup.
One of two spinning models. H power 8' spinning musky rods are used by anglers who favor the open-face feel for figure-eight boat-side presentations or when casting large blades and swimbaits with a spinning reel for control.
Heaviest lure rating in the series at 6–12 oz. XH power at 8'6" is built for the largest rubber swimbaits, bulldawgs, and heavy topwater lures. Demands strong physical condition to cast repeatedly through a full musky session.
