The St. Croix Rogue V Slow Pitch series is a mid-tier saltwater slow-pitch jigging rod line introduced at ICAST 2025, made for offshore bottom species, amberjack, snapper, grouper, tuna, using the slow-pitch vertical jigging technique that relies on rod rebound (parabolic action, slow load/release cycle) to animate metal jigs. Built for boat use only; outside the casting rod lane. Designed for anglers learning or advancing slow-pitch technique without investing in high-end Japanese imports. Blanks use St. Croix's Matrix Composite construction: woven E-glass for resilience and impact resistance, SCII carbon for sensitivity and weight reduction, and ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology) scrim for structural integrity, all bound with FRS (Fortified Resin System) and shaped via TET (Taper Enhancement Technology) to produce parabolic bend curves specific to slow-pitch technique.
Braid-ready Alconite guides, dual-lock reel seat, EVA/composite-cork split grip. Retail pricing $195–$255 places it as accessible for a series using this construction approach. EVA/composite-cork butt caps are fitted to absorb rod-butt strain during the pumping cycle. Seven models, all 6'6": five conventional/trolling (SEICJ) in ML/M/MH/H/XH power, two spinning (SEISJ) in M/ML power. The conventional models span the full power range for different jig weights and target species; XH is for the heaviest jigs and largest fish. The two spinning models at M and ML offer a lighter approach suitable for shallower water and smaller species.
All models share the identical 6'6" length, providing consistent leverage geometry across the power range.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Lightest conventional model, suited for shallow-water slow-pitch with lighter jigs made for smaller snapper or sea bass species. The ML parabolic taper provides enough flex for good jig animation on lighter weights without requiring heavy tackle.
Heaviest conventional model for deep-water applications with large jigs, strong current, or large amberjack and tuna. The XH rating provides the backbone needed to pump big fish while the parabolic taper still allows slow-pitch technique execution.
Primary spinning model for slow-pitch practitioners who prefer spinning tackle. Spinning slow-pitch is more common in lighter applications and shallower depths; this M-power option handles mid-range jig weights in that context.
