X-TREK Freshwater

The X-TREK Freshwater is St. Croix's entry into the integrated rod-and-reel combo market for freshwater anglers, competing directly with Shimano and Daiwa's combo offerings at a similar price point ($175–$190 retail). The target angler is the casual-to-intermediate freshwater angler who wants a complete, pre-matched spinning setup without the complexity of pairing individual components. Target species and techniques span general light freshwater fishing, bass, walleye, panfish, and trout using light soft plastics, small jigs, and finesse presentations.

Rods are built on SCII carbon (St. Croix's entry graphite tier) with FRS for additional strength and durability at lower cost. Slim stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide rings are braid-friendly and lightweight. Split-grip handles use agglomerated cork, durable and reasonably sensitive for the price point. Fast action throughout the series suits the finesse-forward freshwater techniques. The rod paired reel uses a 2500 or 2000 series skeletonized composite X-Trek reel at 6.2:1 gear ratio with stacked carbon drag. The -C suffix on all models indicates combo configuration; rods are not independently sold in most retail channels.

Four spinning models at two lengths (6'6" and 7") and two power ratings (ML and M). One 6'6" ML, one 6'6" M, and two 7' M rods, the duplicate 7' M is distinguished by the trailing '2' in the model code (CTCS70MF2 vs CTCS70MF), showing two-piece breakdown versus one-piece. The two-piece models pair with the 2500 reel; the single-piece 6'6" models use 2000 reels. ML covers lighter finesse work (4–10 lb, 1/8–1/2 oz); M handles slightly heavier presentations (6–12 lb, 1/4–5/8 oz).
