The Tenryu Horizon Progressive (HPG) is the flagship tier of Tenryu's offshore light jigging line, positioned above the Horizon LJ series. It serves light-to-medium offshore jigging for bluebacks, sea bream, flatfish, and rockfish in inshore-to-mid-depth offshore environments. The intended angler is an experienced Japanese light jigging specialist who wants the best available components in a slim, specialized package. Blanks are high-modulus graphite with CNT reinforcement and the Nishijin textile woven into the reel seat, a premium aesthetic and functional detail.
Guides are titanium-frame K-series with Torzite rings (SiC top only on spinning models). Baitcasting models use TCS reel seat; spinning models use VSS. The CNT material specifically addresses the reflective strength (snap-back from load) that jigging requires to impart action on the jig. Carbon/glass composition is 92-93%/7-8%, the glass fraction adds toughness for deep-sea fish-fighting loads. Seven models split between four baitcasting (HPG66B-ML/M/MH/H, all 6'6" single-piece) and three spinning (HPG612S-M, HPG632S-ML, HPG642S-LL, 6'1" to 6'4", all two-piece double-handle).
The baitcast models cover 100g to 250g jig weights at varying depths; the spinning models target lighter presentations (60-150g) including a dedicated negging-style slow-pitch model (HPG632S-ML). No freshwater application.

Designed for light tackle with big-fish potential; handles 100-150g jigs around 100m depth. CNT and Magnaflex soft-tip loading improve jig manipulation and bite detection. Two-piece double-handle spinning for deep presentation control.
Designated 'Negging Custom' model, a slow-pitch jigging variant for the negging (ne-jigging) style at ~70m depth with 120g jigs. Long rear grip (500mm) accommodates straight-pump technique. ML at 6'3" requires PE max 2.0. Specific technique tool.
Super-light spinning model for jigs around 60g at up to 50m. Weighs 97g, lightest in the series. Large-diameter ring and short grip facilitate underhand casting. Paired with light line systems (PE max 1.5). Suited to ultra-finesse inshore light jigging.
Heaviest baitcast model; suited for jigs around 250g in deep water (the manufacturer notes its use for deep-sea jigging). Sharp and tenacious blank with sufficient CNT-boosted reflective strength for prolonged deep drops. Max drag 5.5kg.
