GX2
All-around value rod with composite blank and Clear Tip for general freshwater use
GX2 is the modern iteration of the Ugly Stik all-around rod and works as Shakespeare's flagship value line. Target user is the general-purpose freshwater or light-saltwater angler looking for a durable stick across panfish, bass, walleye, catfish, and inshore work. Beginners, kids, rental fleets, and rod-and-reel combos make up a large share of the audience.
Construction is Ugly Tech, a graphite and fiberglass composite blank that trades some sensitivity for impact resistance and resistance to breakage. The Clear Tip section is the brand's signature, providing a visible strike indicator and added tip durability. Ugly Tuff one-piece stainless guides with PVD coating handle braid and mono without insert pop-out.
Shrink-tube handles and an EVA or cork foregrip round out the build. The 38-rod catalog uses bare numeric SKUs in the 1611xxx (casting) and the spinning ranges. Technique decode in the model number is absent. Lengths span 4'6" through 9' and powers run from UL through H, in both spinning and casting configurations.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 38 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
