The 13 Fishing Defy Black Spinning Rod (Gen 2) is a sub-$100 freshwater spinning series made for bass anglers who prioritize finesse techniques, Ned rigs, drop shots, shaky heads, and light swimbaits. The price point and construction place it as a step up from entry-level without crossing into premium territory. It competes directly with similar-priced rods from Ugly Stik Elite and St. Croix Triumph in the budget-performance segment.

Blanks use Japanese 24-ton graphite described as "durable and reactive", a moderate-modulus choice that trades some raw sensitivity for impact resistance. The Evolve seamless reel seat and high-density Japanese EVA split grip reduce weight while improving ergonomics. Guides are lightweight Evolve stainless steel frames with Alconite inserts, a serviceable combination that handles braid without cutting. The Gen 2 designation reflects guide and cosmetic updates over the original Defy Black.

All six models in this batch are spinning rods across two lengths (6'7" and 7'1") and three power ratings (ML, M, MH). The 6'7" models include ML and M; the 7'1" models add MH. All carry fast action except the 7'1" ML (DB2S71ML) at 1/16–3/8oz, the lightest lure-weight slot in the lineup. The DB2S67M-2 is a two-piece travel variant of the standard 6'7" M model.

A closer look at notable models.

DB2S67M-2 Spinning · 6'7" · M · F action

Two-piece version of the standard 6'7" M model. Same specs, added pack convenience. Useful for travel or anglers sharing vehicle/storage space. Documented reviews do not show a performance penalty in user reviews.

DB2S71MH Spinning · 7'1" · MH · F action

Heavier spinning option suited for larger soft plastics, topwater walking baits on spinning gear, or heavier fluorocarbon applications. Less common configuration at this price tier.

DB2S71ML Spinning · 7'1" · ML · F action

Lightest lure rating in the batch, 1/16 oz floor makes this the finesse-specific option. At 7'1" it pairs well with spinning reels for light drop shot or Ned rig work where extra reach aids presentation.
