The Defy Silver is 13 Fishing's entry-level spinning rod made for ultralight freshwater anglers, primarily panfish, crappie, and trout fishermen. It sits in the brand's value tier, based on 24-ton HTC2 Japanese graphite blanks and finished with long-stem stainless steel guides with polished inserts (polished stainless), a soft-touch finesse reel seat, and Portuguese cork handle. The price point and materials target new and budget-conscious anglers who want a lightweight, responsive tool without moving into mid-tier or premium graphite.
All nine models are spinning only, in UL and L power with Fast action across the board. Lure ratings are narrow (1/32–3/32oz for UL; 1/16–1/4oz for L), supporting the panfish/crappie/trout positioning. A structural note: the polished stainless guide inserts are flagged by user reviews as susceptible to wear from prolonged braided-line use, this rod is optimally used on 2–6lb mono or light fluorocarbon instead of braid. The lineup is logical and clean: three length clusters (5'6", 6'6", 7'0") each offered in UL and L power.
The 6'6" and 7'0" lengths additionally have "-2" suffixed models showing 2-piece travel configurations. The 5'6" UL single-piece at 1-piece is the specialty ultra-compact option. No casting, no medium or heavier powers.
