The Infrared Ice Rod is 13 Fishing's dedicated big-game ice rod, positioned for anglers made for larger through-the-ice species such as lake trout, trophy walleye, large northern pike, and jumbo perch where a fast, hard hookset and sustained fighting pressure are required. The solid fiberglass blank is chosen for durability and flex under sustained load instead of bite detection sensitivity. Blank construction is solid fiberglass throughout, a material choice that gives the rod pronounced flex through the fight without brittleness in extreme cold.

Guides are stainless steel with polished inserts. The reel seat is a custom-built Evolve seamless design described as fabricated specifically for fighting pressure instead of a standard catalogued component. The 40" length is fixed across both models, longer than most panfish ice rods, deliberate for heavier fish and deeper water presentations. Two models at identical 40" length: I3-40M (Medium) and I3-40MH (Medium-Heavy).

The only models differ power rating, M for moderate-sized serves and lighter presentations, MH for aggressive hooksets and heavier fish. Both are spinning format. The series is compact: Light or heavy-power variants are included is absent.

A closer look at notable models.

I3-40M Spinning · 0' 40" · M

Medium power suits walleye and moderate-sized lake trout; more forgiving blank flex makes it appropriate where bites may be light or fish run in the 3–8 lb class.

I3-40MH Spinning · 0' 40" · MH

MH steps up backbone for large pike or lake trout requiring fast hooksets and sustained drag pressure. Stiffer tip means less sensitivity but more control on bigger fish.
