Black Label is Daiwa Japan's core bass rod family, sitting a tier below the Steez flagship and well above Blazon. The line has run through several generations. The 2019 version split into BLX SG, built on high-modulus carbon with Toray nanoalloy resin and a 3DX honeycomb butt section, and BLX LG, built around mid-modulus blanks with X45 Full Shield bias construction. The 2025 fourth generation consolidates the family into 22 models under a concept of plain, durable practicality, moving to a matte black finish with EVA grips in place of the earlier gloss and cork.
Blanks use SVF carbon on the finesse and solid-tip models, HVF carbon on the versatile and heavy models, and full low-modulus fiber on the three dedicated cranking rods (C66L-LM, C66ML-LM, C66M-LM). X45 Full Shield resists blank twist, Mega Top solid tips carry the jig and worm models, V-Joint bias carbon reinforces the joints on two-piece versions, and the Zero Seat reel seat uses a Perming Fit trigger on casting rods and a Seamless Fit body on spinning rods.
Lengths run 6'3" to 7'4". Code suffixes decode the intent: BF for bait finesse, ST for solid tip, FR for frog, SB for swimbait, LM for low modulus cranking. Many models use a shallow inverted-V taper that holds the tip straight under load and bends from the midsection back, which builds slack into the line and softens lure movement.
