Lateo is the volume seabass series in Daiwa's Japanese lineup, sitting below Labrax AGS and well below the Morethan and Branzino flagships, and it is the widest of the six with 27 models. Japanese seabass, suzuki, hold in tidal rivers, harbor basins and surf, feeding on the current at night under bridge and dock lights; American anglers already know the game as shore striper fishing, worked with minnows, vibration baits and blades on braid. The catalog covers that whole range. Sixteen two-piece spinning models run 2.59 m to 3.35 m (8'6" to 11'0") and 7 to 60 g, with 90L down at 5 to 28 g and PE 0.5 to 1.2 for finesse current work. Five baitcasting models run 2.44 m to 3.12 m, topped by 80XHB at MAX 130 g and PE 2.0 to 4.0 for big-bait casting. Six four-piece models, spinning and bait, cover travel. Blank weights run 120 g to 198 g. The 2024 generation moved to a higher-modulus, slimmer blank with a stiffer grip section, and introduced CC Grip, a rear grip with flattened sides and cut EVA grooves meant to keep the casting stroke straight. Blanks carry X45, HVF Nanoplus or HVF carbon depending on model, a V-Joint ferrule and an Air Sensor seat, with stainless SiC K-guides rather than the AGS carbon guides used one tier up.
