Freshwater trolling series from Lamiglas designed for kokanee salmon and trout, primarily fished from downriggers and flatlines on western lakes and reservoirs. The technique requires a rod with a very soft, flexible tip to allow kokanee (light-biting, soft-mouthed fish) to fully commit to the lure before any resistance is felt, combined with sufficient backbone to move fish to the net. Fiberglass or fiberglass-graphite composite construction is traditional and intentional for this application.
The CG (fiberglass) and HS/LX/XCC designators indicate different blank compositions. The CG70DR and CG80GH are described as classic all-fiberglass blanks known for their even parabolic action, particularly the CG70DR, described by Lamiglas as one of their best-selling kokanee rods. Thinner tips are a known fragility point; users report breakage when braided line is used without a monofilament leader. The graphite-handle CG80GH is noted for its ease of removal from rod holders.
Six models spanning 7'–9' in spinning configuration, plus one casting (LX702ULC). Powers range from UL to light general ratings. The HS90GH is a 9-foot heavy-tip model for longer spreads; the LX702ULC casting model suits downrigger setups where a round conventional reel is preferred. The XCC762ULGH is an ultra-light graphite-composite variant. Lineup covers multiple trolling setups and boat configurations without redundancy.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Lamiglas flagship kokanee model by volume. All-fiberglass blank with even parabolic action, very soft tip, progressive backbone. Widely used and reviewed positively on kokanee forums. Shorter length (7') suits boats where rod spread is limited.
Only casting/conventional model in the series. Designed for anglers running downriggers with round conventional reels for line-counter trolling. UL power with very light line capacity reflects the finesse required for kokanee.
8-foot fiberglass with graphite handle. Extra length for lateral bait spread. Graphite handle is noted by users for easy extraction from rod holders while fighting a fish. Some reports of tip fragility with braided main line, a mono leader is recommended.
Longest model in the lineup. Nine feet of reach for wide bait spreads behind the boat or for trolling on larger, open reservoirs. Higher line ceiling (to 12 lb) also makes it viable for larger lake trout.
