The MACH 1 rod series serves freshwater bass anglers who want technique-specific coverage at an accessible price point. With 11 casting and 10 spinning models, it handles the full range of bass presentations from finesse drop-shots and ultralight spinning up through punching and frogging. Blanks are IM7 graphite, available in 1- or 2-piece configurations.
Hardware includes stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide inserts, Lew's skeletal graphite reel seat, and Winn Dri-Tac split grip with EVA butt. The 2024 renovation refreshed component specs but did not substantially change the blank or action architecture. MSRP holds at $79.99, positioning this as a budget-to-mid range daily driver. The lineup runs from a 6' UL spinning model up to 7'+ heavy casting rods.
Technique-coded models (BFS, JR, PR, CBR, WR, FSR, DSR, NRR, SBR, SHR, SJR, TWJBR) identify specific applications; general power/length variants fill in around them. Spinning models top out at MH; casting runs to H. The 2-piece (-2 suffix) versions duplicate key models for travel.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Drop-shot spinning model. Light power at 7' gives the reach and tip sensitivity to detect subtle bottom bites; the 1/32oz floor handles the lightest drop-shot rigs commonly used for finesse bass fishing.
Ned rig/small finesse spinning model. The 1/16oz low end fits the light mushroom-head jigs central to the Ned rig; the compact lure range distinguishes it from the general ML spinning models in the series.
Punching rod. The H power blank and 65lb top-end line rating are sized for punching heavy mats with tungsten weights on braided line, the heaviest duty model in the series.
Labeled as a Tokyo Rig/jerkbait rod. Moderate-fast action and the narrower 8-12lb line window suit the technique's need for a somewhat forgiving tip that still carries enough backbone for a positive hook set.
ML baitfinesse casting model built for light lures on a baitcaster. The 6-10lb line window and 1/8-3/8oz range confirm it is tuned for small crankbaits, finesse swimbaits, and skip-casting with lighter plastics, not for standard baitcast loads.
Designated crankbait rod. Moderate action separates it from the fast-action majority of the lineup, providing the parabolic bend needed to keep treble hooks pinned during a crankbait fight and to cushion casts with hard-bodied lures.
Jig rod with a wide line range (12-50lb) accommodating both mono/fluoro and heavy braid for flipping and pitching. The fast action keeps sensitivity high for detecting bites in cover.
