The Team Lew's Custom Pro is a technique-specific casting rod series developed with tournament bass pros Kevin VanDam, Andy Montgomery, Mark Rose, and Greg Hackney. Each model maps to a defined presentation, flipping, pitching, punching, swim jigs, topwater, and finesse, instead of being a general-purpose rod. The intended angler is a competitive or serious recreational bass fisherman who matches tools to techniques precisely. Blanks use Lew's multi-layered graphite with FOCAS resin technology, which reportedly improves tip strength without adding weight.
Components are tournament-grade: Seaguide RA guides with aluminum oxide inserts, Full Contact reel seat maximizing blank-to-hand contact, and Winn Dri-Tac split grips. All models are casting; Spinning variants in this seven-rod set is absent. The series sits above Lew's mid-tier offerings but below their flagship Custom Lite line. All seven models are casting, ranging 6'8" to 7'6", all fast action, primarily MH to H power. The TLCPSBR (6'10" MH, 3/16-5/8oz) reads as a short-pitch or swim-jig rod; TLCPMBR1 (7' MH F, 1/4-5/8oz) is a general flipping/jig model; TLCPMHC (7'6" H, 15-65lb/3/16-1oz) is a punching/heavy cover tool; TLCPMPS (7'4" H, 1/2-2oz) suits large swimbait and big spinnerbait.
TLCPTWS (6'8" MH, 6-12lb) with its light line rating is the finesse or topwater option.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Lightest line and lure range in the casting lineup (6-12lb, 1/8-1/2oz). At 6'8" this reads as a topwater or finesse casting rod, uncommon light-line spec for a baitcaster-only series suggests wacky/neko rig or small walking bait applications.
The sole moderate-fast action model in the series. MF action suggests a crankbait or moving bait pairing where some tip give aids hook retention, the 1/8-1/2oz lure range is consistent with squarebills and medium-diving cranks.
The 1/2-2oz lure range combined with H power and 7'4" length points to a dedicated big bait/swimbait role. The extended lure range upper bound separates it from the punching stick above.
65lb upper line rating and H power at 7'6" identifies this as the punching rod, designed for driving heavy tungsten weights through thick mats with braided line. The 3/16oz lower bound is atypically light for this power class.
