The Lew's Wally Marshall Speed Shooter Rod is a signature crappie series co-designed with Wally Marshall, a competitive dock-shooter known for long-distance crappie casts under docks and structure. The rod is built specifically around the dock-shooting technique. Skipping light jigs and tube baits under low-clearance cover. Where fast loading, accurate trajectory, and a sensitive tip are more important than raw power.
It also covers general crappie and panfish spinning with 1/16–1/4 oz presentations on 4–10 lb line. The blank is IM8 graphite with a fast action. Stainless steel guides, a skeletal reel seat, and EVA grips keep overall weight low. The action was tuned by Marshall to load quickly on the forward cast and release predictably, a key requirement for consistent shooting accuracy under dock corners and boat lifts.
All three models are ML-power spinning rods with fast action, sharing the same line and lure ratings: WMSS60ML at 6'0", WMSS66ML at 6'6", and WMSS70ML at 7'0". No heavier-power or casting variants exist in the series. Longer models provide increased reach for flipping and swinging presentations; the 6' is the preferred choice for tight dock shooting.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest and most preferred length for traditional dock shooting. The 6'0" gives the angler close-quarters control and a tight casting arc needed to place lures horizontally under low dock structures with minimal back-swing.
Longest rod in the series. The 7'0" extends reach for casting along dock edges, swimming jigs under boat covers, and covering water from a fixed position without repositioning the boat.
