The AYUPARA Ayu Lure Model is Major Craft's response to a growing Japanese niche: lure fishing for ayu (sweetfish, Plecoglossus altivelis) using small spoons, micro plugs, and weighted soft plastics in river currents. Traditional ayu fishing relies on live-bait or fly methods; lure ayu fishing is a newer technique drawing in bass and trout anglers. This rod is designed for medium to large rivers with downstream and cross-stream casting approaches, where 9'3" provides sufficient reach for long drifts.
The blank features a custom taper with a long solid-tip section and a reinforced butt, a combination intended to keep ayu from detecting rod resistance while also allowing the angler to steer fish through current. Solid tips in this context reduce the reflexive "bump" transmitted to a light-biting ayu. Ratings of 4–10 lb line and 3/16–11/16 oz lure are relatively wide for a single-species rod, accommodating the range of micro-jigs and spoons used in this technique. No lure-weight or line-weight details confirm PE braid compatibility.
Two spinning models only, both 9'3" ML power with fast action, differentiated by a suffix: AYP-S932ML/S (spinning, standard) and AYP-B932ML/S (which, despite the /B notation, also appears in retailer listings as a spinning model with a different blank taper or regional specification). Confidence on the construction split between the two variants is limited; they share identical published specs.
