The Major Craft Boat Taco series covers boat-based octopus (tako) fishing, a popular Japanese inshore technique where weighted rubber egi lures are worked along the bottom from an anchored or drifting boat. The target angler fishes relatively shallow coastal structure, prioritizing tactile feedback to detect the subtle resistance of an octopus grabbing the lure. The SPXJ casting models are from the Solpara X Ship platform; the GR1TACO spinning models are from the Grandship 1G-class line, both explicitly designated as taco (octopus) variants.
GR1TACO spinning models all share a 5'9" length with M power. The suffix after the slash denotes blank construction: /82 is glass tubular for maximum sensitivity reading bottom texture, /91 is a heavier-grade glass tubular for deeper water or faster current, and /GS is glass solid, the softest, most bite-absorbing option suited to conditions where lure contact with the bottom must be minimized. SPXJ casting models (H power, 5'6" and 6') are stiffer baitcast rods for anglers preferring lever-drag conventional setups or heavier jig weights.
Double-foot guides are used throughout for strength under repeated octopus hooksets. The lineup splits into three spinning (GR1TACO) and two casting (SPXJ) models. All five are relatively short, 5'6"–6', reflecting the close-quarters, near-vertical presentation typical of boat tako fishing. No long-cast or shore-fishing applications are intended.

A closer look at notable models.
Glass solid construction, the softest tip variant. Recommended where you want to keep the egi pressed to the bottom in faster currents without telegraphing rod movement to the octopus. Maximizes bite absorption.
The longer of the two Solpara X Ship casting models. H power handles heavier lead heads needed in deeper water or strong currents. Baitcast-specific for anglers preferring thumb control over drop speed.
