The Black Porgy 1G Chinning Model (BP1) is Major Craft's entry-level dedicated rod for chinu (black seabream) lure fishing from shore, specifically bay areas, river mouths, and tidal flats. It fits anglers new to chinning who want a specialized rod without paying premium prices. Techniques covered include free-rig bottom crawling, jig-head dragging, topwater plug work, and light flipping to structure. The blank uses medium-modulus carbon as the primary cross layer, with high-modulus carbon added at the butt section for improved load transfer without sacrificing the mid-blank flex needed for chinu's torquey fight.
Two tip configurations are offered: tubular (RF action, general-purpose sensitivity) and solid-tip (Fast action, improved bite detection on light 3–15g rigs). Fuji K-guide frames throughout. The grip is a universal shape balanced for all-day sessions. All models are 2-piece at 7'6" and priced uniformly at ¥15,100. The lineup splits evenly: three spinning models (BP1S-S762ML solid, BP1S-762ML tubular, BP1S-762M tubular/M) and three bait models (BP1B-S762ML solid, BP1B-762ML tubular, BP1B-762M tubular/M).
The ML models handle 3–15g and PE 0.3–1.0; M models step up to 4–20g and PE 0.4–1.5 for deeper or snag-heavy water. Spinning suits wide-coverage shallow fishing; bait suits tight-quarters bottom work.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Heavier tubular bait model for complex bottom, rock, shell, or mixed structure. Manufacturer's recommended choice for free-rig bait fishing in snag-heavy or deeper spots where extra backbone matters at hookset.
Solid-tip baitcasting model. The compliant tip reads light free-rig and jig-head presentations on bottom structure where bait rigs tend to snag. Manufacturer notes it as the best choice for methodically probing pin spots with baitcaster control.
Heavier tubular spinning model for free-rig in deep or current-heavy water. Steps up lure range to 4–20g and PE to 1.5, suited to areas with snag risk or where a faster sink rate is needed to stay on bottom.
Solid-tip spinning counterpart. Prioritizes casting distance to cover shallow areas broadly while retaining the sensitivity to detect soft bottom-drag bites. Manufacturer describes it as the most versatile entry point for shore chinning.
