The Giant Killing Jigging model batch in this database combines rods from three distinct Giant Killing platform grades, 1G (entry), 5G (mid-high), and New SP Jigging (entry-level, two-piece), all built for offshore vertical jigging from a boat. Target species are pelagic and reef fish: yellowtail (buri/hiramasa), tuna, amberjack, and large rockfish. These are not shore-fishing or light-inshore rods. GK1 blanks use medium-modulus carbon in a low-response design that prioritizes torque and angler fatigue reduction over sensitivity; Major Craft describes this as suited for anglers who find conventional jigging physically demanding.
GK5 blanks use Toray T1100G carbon with 4-directional layering, placing it among the lightest SPJ-capable rods in the market. New SP (SPJK) rods use low-elasticity carbon, are two-piece, and represent the entry price tier (~¥12,000 retail). GK1 and GK5 feature detachable grips; Fuji K-frame guides run throughout. All carry RF (Regular Fast) action. The 20 models split across three sub-families: GK1 (8 rods: 4 bait at 6'0", 4 spinning at 6'2"), GK5 (8 rods: 4 bait at 6'0", 4 spinning at 6'3"–6'4"), and SPJK (4 rods: 2 bait + 2 spinning at 6'0", two-piece).
All are conventional overhead jigging (RF action); power/jig weight is expressed as Power 3 or 4 class (approx. 120–300g jig range for GK1/GK5; 120–260g for SPJK). GK5 spinning adds a 6'4" H model for heavier jig applications.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Heavier of the two New SP spinning models, rated ~150-260g for made for buri and hiramasa in deeper water over 100m, and usable drifting (doteramawashi). Two-piece at the lowest price point in the combined lineup.
Heaviest GK1 spinning model, rated for 180-300g jigs on PE 2.0-4.0 line. Specifically noted by Major Craft for deep-water hiramasa and tuna jigging (tonjigi) in strong current using heavy long jigs. The low-response GK1 blank reduces fatigue in sustained heavy-jig work.
New SP entry-grade two-piece bait jigging rod, rated for roughly 120-210g jigs. Major Craft places it as accessible for beginners, noting the mid-section flex allows effective jig action even without polished technique. Two-piece construction aids transport.
Unique to the GK5 spinning side, 2" longer than the other 6'2" models. The extra length in H power is positioned for deep or fast-current jigging requiring more line control and lifting leverage over the standard GK5 spinning blanks.
