Kawahagi model

The Kawahagi model (カワハギモデル) from Major Craft's New Solpara line is a boat-fishing rod built specifically for kawahagi, thread-sail filefish (Stephanolepis cirrhifer), a technically demanding Japanese boat species known for consuming bait without triggering the hook. Kawahagi fishing demands extreme tip sensitivity to detect the fish's micro-bites and brief mouth contact, coupled with a short, sharp hookset before the fish releases the bait. The target angler fishes from a charter or private boat over rocky or mixed-bottom structure at depths of 20–60 m.

Both models are 5'9" spinning rods with relatively short blanks suited to vertical boat presentations, kawahagi is primarily a boat game, outside the shore game lane. The compact length is appropriate for direct vertical contact with the bait rig and immediate hookset response. Construction follows the Solpara budget-accessible template with Fuji O-ring guides. The solid tip section (standard in kawahagi-specific rods) provides the tactile feedback needed to feel light grabs through the blank without false positive movement from wave action.

Two models at identical 5'9" length: SPKW-175M (M power, lure 11/16–1-1/4 oz) and SPKW-175MH (MH power, lure 7/8–1-7/16 oz). The M model handles lighter sinker rigs in shallower or calmer conditions; MH suits deeper drops or faster current requiring heavier sinker weight. Both are spinning format, the standard tackle approach for kawahagi boat fishing.
