The Major Craft Magochi Game model is a shore-casting flathead (magochi / Platycephalus) series within the Giant Killing 1G platform, designed for made for flathead from shore using jig heads, soft plastics, and light metal jigs. Flathead (locally called kochi or magochi in Japan) are a popular shore lure target that require detecting low-pressure bottom-grazing bites, making solid-tip rod design an asset. This series is based on that detection requirement. All three models are built on the Giant Killing 1G blank platform, which uses Major Craft's high-modulus graphite in a construction tuned for casting accuracy and blank responsiveness under load.
The S-prefix models are solid-tip designs whose tips register the moment a flathead mouthes the lure as it sinks or crawls on bottom, converting subtle contacts into visible tip movements. The non-S model (GK1C-722MH/KOCHI) is a tubular-tip casting rod with a slightly higher lure ceiling and more direct power transmission. Lure ratings of 10–50g and 15–60g cover the typical jig head and metal jig weights used in shore flathead fishing. Max PE line rating is 1.2 across all models. All three models are 7'2" in length with 2-piece construction and casting/baitcasting configuration, making the series exclusively for baitcasting tackle.
The distinction between models runs entirely on tip design (solid vs. Tubular) and lure-weight ceiling instead of length or power, so model selection comes down to technique preference and target lure size.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The tubular-tip model in the series; Fast action and the highest lure ceiling (up to 2 1/8 oz / ~60g) accommodate heavier metal jigs and rubber lures used when made for larger flathead in deeper water or stronger current. More direct blank feel than the solid-tip variants.
Solid-tip, M-power model with Extra Fast taper; the lighter option for finesse jig head presentations and lighter soft plastics. The solid tip improves detection of subtle bottom-grazing bites common to flathead feeding behavior.
