The Mebaru model is a sub-series within the Firstcast (FCS) rockfish range made for mebaru (rockfish, primarily Sebastes inermis and related species) in Japanese light-game shore fishing. Mebaru are small, structure-oriented saltwater fish caught on ultra-light jig heads, worm rigs, and micro metal lures from jetties, rocky shores, and breakwaters. The FCS Mebaru models are entry-to-mid priced, made for anglers entering light rock fishing or seeking a dedicated mebaru tool that handles both split rigs and jig head presentations efficiently.

The series splits into solid-tip (S designation) and tubular-tip (T designation) models. Solid-tip models excel at detecting hesitant pick-up bites and are best suited to split rigs and jig head rigs fished on or near the bottom. Tubular-tip models are more versatile, handling a wider range of light lure types including micro metal jigs and covering other light inshore species. Solid models carry XF action; tubular models use F action. All four rods are spinning, available in 7'3" and 7'6" with UL (solid) or L (tubular) power.

Lure range is 1/64-3/16 oz for solid models and 1/64-1/4 oz for tubular models. Line weight is 1-5 lb across the board. The length pairing within each tip style provides a choice between compactness and casting reach while holding the same lure and line class.

A closer look at notable models.

FCS-S732UL Spinning · 7'3" · UL · XF action

7'3" solid-tip model with XF action and UL power. The solid tip transmits subtle bites from mebaru picking up a lightly weighted jig head or split rig near structure. Best for finesse presentations with 1-3 g jig heads on 1-3 lb line.

FCS-T732L Spinning · 7'3" · L · F action

7'3" tubular-tip in L power with F action. The tubular construction broadens application to micro metal jigs, small plugs, and worm rigs. Functions as an all-rounder light rockfish rod that is less bite-sensitive but more versatile.

FCS-S762UL Spinning · 7'6" · UL · XF action

7'6" solid-tip, same UL power and XF action as the 732. The added length increases casting distance from elevated positions such as jetty walls and provides slightly more reach for guiding lures around rocky structure.

FCS-T762L Spinning · 7'6" · L · F action

7'6" tubular version in L power. Extends casting reach of the T732L for longer-distance shore presentations. Same versatile application across jig heads, small metals, and light worm rigs.
