The Major Craft Backpacker BAK1 (1G-Class) is a multi-piece travel spinning rod series designed for anglers who want to fish during travel, fitting rods into luggage or backpacks for opportunistic shore sessions. The series covers a wide technique range from light ajing/light game at 6' down to light shore jigging at 9'6", allowing a traveler to carry one or two rods that cover the likely fishing scenarios at a destination. Scheduled release is August 2026. Blanks use medium-modulus carbon as the main cross-layer with high-modulus carbon at stress points, made for smooth multi-piece action without the dead spots common in cheaper pack rods.
Fuji K-guides throughout reduce tangle risk. Cork-and-EVA split grips with a down-lock reel seat balance weight and durability for travel conditions. Pack sizes range from 49cm (4-piece 6') to 62cm (5-piece 9'6"), all fitting carry-on luggage or a standard pack. This series is the 1G tier (entry-level in Major Craft's grade hierarchy). The lineup comprises two 4-piece models (BAK1-604SUL/S and BAK1-704UL) and four 5-piece models (BAK1-765L through BAK1-965MH). The 4-piece models are shorter-destination rods, ajing and light rock for the 6', general light game for the 7'.
The 5-piece models step up in length and power: 7'6" L for light eging and light game, 8'6" ML for eging and seabass, 9'0" M for seabass and light shore jigging, 9'6" MH for dedicated light shore jigging (15–50g).

A closer look at notable models.
Ajing specialist at the lightest end of the pack rod range. The solid-tip (S suffix) and EX.Fast action are specific to detecting micro jig-head bites for Japanese horse mackerel (aji), a technique that requires direct tip feel. Lure floor is 0.2g. Packs to 49cm.
Manufacturer-designated for eging (squid jigging) and seabass. A mid-length ML rod covering 5–25g at RF action bridges both technique requirements, the regular-fast action provides eging sensitivity while handling the longer seabass presentations.
Top of the lineup for light shore jigging up to 50g. At 9'6" and packing to 62cm in 5 pieces, this is the choice for shore anglers who travel to surf or rocky coast destinations requiring casting distance and power for small pelagics. The largest pack size in the series.
