This entry covers two distinct Major Craft sub-series grouped under rock fish: the RV7 (Rock Liver 7G) Rockfish models and the New Solpara (SPRF) Rockfish models. They share a target species but differ substantially in application. The RV7 models are heavier-duty shore rock fishing tools made for European-style hard rockfishing, made for large-bodied species from structure, currents, and depth, while the SPRF models target Japanese light-game rockfish (mebaru, kajika) with finesse UL/L-power gear and micro lures. RV7 blanks use Major Craft's seventh-generation layup with high-modulus carbon for rigidity under load.
The RV7 spinning models (782M, 932MH, 962XXH) step from M to XXH power across 7'8"–9'6", suitable for anything from moderate shore jigging to heavy bottom rock grinding. The RV7 baitcasting models (B782MH, B832H, B882XH) follow a parallel progression and are optimized for casting heavy lures and working them close to structure with a conventional reel. The SPRF models are entry-to-mid-price finesse rods in the New Solpara platform, redesigned blank, high-density EVA grip, capable of throwing down to 1/64oz. Available in both standard (S prefix) and travel-configuration (T prefix) at 7'3" and 7'6".
RV7 lineup: three spinning models (M/MH/XXH power, 7'8"–9'6") and three casting models (MH/H/XH power, 7'8"–8'8"), all oriented to medium-heavy shore rockfishing. SPRF lineup: five spinning models at L and ML power, 7'3"–7'6", split between one-piece (S) and multi-piece travel (T) configurations. All SPRF are finesse-rated at 1–6lb line and sub-half-ounce lures.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Multi-piece travel version of the 7'6" L-power finesse rod, same spec as the S (one-piece) variant but breaks down for portability. Suited to anglers fishing multiple locations from walk-in access.
Sole ML-power model in the SPRF sub-lineup, the step up for slightly heavier jigheads (up to 1/2oz) and small hard baits made for larger mebaru or mixed bottom species.
Flagged by Major Craft as the versatile base model for the RV7 casting range, H power blank balances mending performance in current with enough sensitivity to read bottom structure.
Heaviest spinning model in the RV7 rockfish lineup, 9'6" at XXH power for deep-water bottom grinding and heavy current situations. Recommended for golden snapper and large bottom rock species from exposed points.
