The Giant Killing Slow Jigging model batch spans three platform grades, GK1 (entry), GK5 (mid-high, T1100G carbon), and GK7 (top tier), all designed for slow-pitch jigging (SPJ) from a boat. SPJ serves bottom-oriented and mid-column species: red snapper (akamutsu/kuromutsu), cod (tara), flatfish, large rockfish, and bluefin tuna (tonjigi). None of these rods are appropriate for high-pitch jigging, popping, or freshwater use. GK1 SJ rods use medium-elasticity carbon with a Regular Slow (R action) parabolic curve; the design goal is to let the blank work the jig passively without demanding large angler inputs.
GK5 SJ rods (released April 2025) use Toray T1100G carbon configured in 4 axial directions for torsional resistance; rated from 87–116g rod weight and jig ranges from MAX 180g up to MAX 400g. GK7 SJ rods are sold as the heaviest-duty tier, rated in fixed jig weights (shown as single fixed values in the data: 350g, 400g, 500g for the 5'7" models; 180g, 250g, 300g for the 6' models), using RF action for the heaviest deep-sea applications. The lineup splits as follows: GK1 SJ (5 rods, all bait, 6'0", R action, power 1–5 class); GK5 SJ 62 models (4 rods, bait, detachable grip, 6'2", RS action, MAX 180–400g); GK5 SJ 66 models (5 rods, bait, 6'6", RS action, 40–350g); GK7 SJ 57 models (3 rods, bait, 5'7", RF action, extra-heavy jigs 350-500g); GK7 SJ 60 models (3 rods, bait, 6'0", RF action, 180-300g).
All models are bait (overhead/conventional reel) only, Spinning models in this batch is absent.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Rated for ~500g jigs, the heaviest jig weight in the entire combined batch. Specialized for extreme-depth or strong-current tonjigi (Pacific bluefin tuna jigging) and very deep-sea bottom fishing where lighter models cannot keep a jig vertical.
Shortest and lightest of the GK7 57 sub-models, rated at approximately 350g fixed jig weight. The 5'7" length concentrates lifting power in a short blank suited for very deep and high-current SPJ situations where blank length would work against the angler.
Positioned by Major Craft as the primary mid-depth (200m+) model for premium bottom fish: akamutsu (rosy seabass), kuromutsu, and cod. The 120-300g range also covers tuna jigging. A step-change model from the lighter /1 and /2 variants.
Lightest model in the GK5 B66 sub-line (40-150g jigs, PE 0.6-1.5 at 87g rod weight). Suited for shallow-water SPJ made for hairtail (tachiuo), sea bream, and light-tackle yellowtail in under 100m.
