The Major Craft Finetail Stream Glass model (FSG) is a native trout series built on UD (unidirectional) fiberglass intended for Japanese mountain stream anglers made for iwana (charr), yamame, and amago on small lures in confined, brushy terrain. The series is designed to deliver the forgiving bend characteristics of fiberglass while shedding much of the weight penalty associated with older glass formulations. It translates well to North American creek trout and smallmouth applications.

Blanks use UD glass, lighter and more responsive than woven-glass blanks, with a taper engineered to load smoothly during short underhand casts in close quarters. Guides are Fuji K-frame with SiC-S inserts for PE-line compatibility. The reel seat is polished natural wood with stainless locking hardware; grips are natural cork. Both spinning and baitcasting ("Bait") configurations are offered at every length. The bait models are notable for enabling BFS (Bait Finesse System) reel use in very tight stream environments where overhead casts are impractical.

Six lengths per action type span 3'8" to 6'3". The shorter UL models (3'8" to 4'10") are built for headwater and overgrown brush-stream fishing. The 5'3" UL+ adds a stronger butt section for fish over 35cm and larger creek applications. The 6'3" L+ extends into mid-river territory with a gentler taper and regular (non-fast) action for downstream drift presentations.

A closer look at notable models.

FSG-382UL Spinning · 3'8" · UL · RF action

Shortest spinning model. Manufacturer calls it the "sanpachi" (3'8") for source-water and brushy-ravine fishing. The glass blank loads on minimal casting motion, allowing accurate short-distance presentations where a backcast is impossible.

FSG-B382UL Casting · 3'8" · UL · RF action

3'8" baitcast version. Manufacturer notes the arm-extension feel for pinpoint accuracy in enclosed spaces. BFS reel compatibility extends the application to ultra-light lures (1-2g) on sub-10lb braid.

FSG-B532UL+ Casting · 5'3" · UL · RF action

5'3" bait model with UL+ power. Straight rear grip design. Suitable for open brushy creeks and lower-gradient rivers where bait-finesse approach with slightly heavier lures is advantageous.

FSG-532UL+ Spinning · 5'3" · UL · RF action

UL+ classification indicates a stronger butt section than the standard UL models. Manufacturer serves streams that may hold larger fish (35cm+) or winter catch-and-release zones where the standard UL may be underpowered.

FSG-B632L+ Casting · 6'3" · L+ · R action

Longest bait model with Regular action. Manufacturer positions it for main-stem river fishing where casting across current is needed; the L+ power and 6.3ft length manage larger fish in heavier water.

FSG-632L+ Spinning · 6'3" · L+ · R action

Longest and heaviest model in the spinning lineup, with Regular (non-fast) action. The slower taper supports downstream drift and across-current minnow manipulation; the L+ power handles mid-river fish up to 45-50cm without strain.
