The Major Craft Finetail Native FSX Stream model serves Japanese mountain stream (渓流, keiryu) trout anglers, primarily amago, yamame, and iwana, in tight, overgrown freshwater streams. Internationally, the same specifications suit native trout, small stream bass, and char fishing in tight-canopy environments. This is outside the stillwater or reservoir rod lane; very short models down to 3'8" reflect the constraints of fishing under overhanging branches and between boulders. Blanks use high-modulus carbon with a bias design and cross-force manufacturing to suppress blank twist and improve tracking, construction language consistent with Major Craft's mid-upper freshwater segment.

SiC-S guides are set at multiple points for improved sensitivity transfer. Natural wood accents appear in grip construction. The lineup is split between spinning (FSX prefix) and baitcasting/baitfinesse (FSX-B prefix), the latter oriented toward bait finesse system (BFS) anglers using low-profile low-inertia reels common in Japanese stream fishing. Lengths span 3'8" to 8'2", covering close-quarters mountain streams at the short end to larger river access at the long end. UL dominates the shorter models; L is standard mid-range; ML and M/MH appear only at 6'9"+ lengths for heavier streams or swing-and-retrieve approaches.

The 7'2" and 8'2" MH models in both spinning and casting are the only models rated for 8-16 lb line, a notable step up suited for larger river smallmouth or saltwater light-game crossover.

A closer look at notable models.

FSX-B382UL Casting · 3'8" · UL · F action

The baitfinesse counterpart to the 3'8" UL spinning model. At this length, a casting setup requires a very low-inertia reel (BFS-tuned spool) to throw 1-2 gram lures without backlash, niche even within the stream fishing category.

FSX-382UL Spinning · 3'8" · UL · F action

Shortest spinning model. 3'8" reflects extreme close-quarters stream fishing under canopy cover where a longer rod is physically impossible to cast. A specialist model with narrow application outside dense overgrowth mountain streams.

FSX-822MH Spinning · 8'2" · MH · RF action

Longest and heaviest spinning model. At 8'2" MH with RF action, it departs from mountain stream applications and suits larger rivers, lake inflows, or saltwater light-game, a crossover model within the Finetail family.
