The Major Craft RedBack BEND GAME Tai Rubber Full Solid model (RBBG series) is an offshore boat rod built specifically for tai rubber (rubber jig) fishing made for madai (Japanese red sea bream). It was released in November 2025. The design emphasis is on a "nori-choshi" (bite-taking) philosophy, a fully through-loading blank that does not jar the fish during the bite, allowing the hook to penetrate cleanly. This approach is particularly effective when madai activity is low or fish are bumping baits tentatively. Anglers here are offshore boat fishers in Japanese coastal waters, Seto Inland Sea, Japan Sea, Pacific, with moderate to serious experience in tai rubber technique.
All six models use full solid blanks, which flex through the entire length including the butt, generating progressive power that increases as the bend deepens. This contrasts with solid-tip/tubular-body hybrids found in entry-tier tai rubber rods. Guides are Fuji K-frame SiC throughout; the heavier ML and M models use larger-diameter guides to minimize jellyfish debris fouling on the PE line. Grips have a down-lock design and are removable for storage. All models are baitcasting (bait), single-piece with detachable grip. Six bait models only: two short options at 5'3" (L and ML powers) and four at 6'3"–6'6" (UL, L, ML, M).
The 5'3" models target shallow Seto Inland Sea and close-range dottera (drift) scenarios. The 6'3" UL is the softest long option, for depths to ~50m. The 6'6" models scale up for deeper water and the Japan Sea/Pacific, with the 6'6" M handling lures to 200g and dottera loads to 300g.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Short Seto Inland Sea and near-coastal model for shallow tai rubber. Delivers direct bite feedback and close-range fight sensation. Full-solid L blank absorbs the take without alarming the fish, then loads progressively for the fight.
ML short model suited to dottera (drift) fishing where line runs out at an angle. The stiffer butt vs. The L allows better line management with heavier dottera heads (up to 200g) in current.
Softest long model, for shallow-water vertical tai rubber to ~50m where maximum tip compliance is wanted. MAX 100g lure / 130g dottera. Best for slow bite conditions where fish are barely mouthing the lure.
Heaviest model, built for deep-water and open Pacific/Japan Sea applications. MAX 200g lure and 300g dottera; PE up to 1.5. Large guides reduce jellyfish line fouling. The blank's progressive load means big fish fight at full-arc bend.
