The Major Craft RedBack 1G Tai Rubber series serves offshore anglers pursuing madai (red sea bream) via tairaba (rubber jig) techniques. The lineup addresses two distinct approaches: bait-style vertical jigging with dotera (drift) presentation, and spinning-style casting tairaba for covering ground on charter and private boats. Models scale from UL/L finesse builds optimized for the high-pressure Seto Inland Sea fishery up to M-power rigs capable of handling 200–300g heads in water exceeding 100m. Blanks are built on a low-response, intermediate-modulus carbon cross with a solid-tip construction.
The design philosophy, translated from Major Craft's own copy, is "a blank that keeps madai biting," meaning the tip and belly flex without transmitting resistance to the fish. Bait models split between small-diameter guides (UL/L) for bite sensitivity and larger guides on ML/M to shed jellyfish in dotera-drift conditions; the ML and M bait models also use a spiral guide setting to strip debris off the line. Spinning models carry Fuji K-frame guides to reduce line tangles on cast. All models have a removable grip and Fuji PULS/VSS reel seat. The 12-model lineup divides into bait-style (8 models: 4 single-piece with removable grip, 4 two-piece) and spinning-style (4 models: 2 single-piece, 2 two-piece).
Within each sub-group, models step through UL, L, ML, and M power ratings. Two-piece variants share identical specs with their single-piece counterparts; the split point is at the butt, keeping the collapsed length around 108cm for transport. Spinning models come in shorter 6'4"–6'6" lengths suited to underhand casting from a boat's amidships position.

A closer look at notable models.
Single-piece spinning model for casting tairaba from a boat's amidships position. Shorter 6'4" length for underhand casts in confined space. Max cast 80g; solid tip and flexible belly resist alarming pressured fish. Fuji K-guides cut line-tangle risk on cast.
Single-piece spinning model for aggressive casting tairaba coverage. Tubular blank for improved casting distance of up to 120g heads. Designed for anglers who want to locate madai by covering water instead of vertical drifting.
Single-piece bait model for mainstream near-coast tairaba. Handles ~80g heads vertically, up to 150g dotera. Flexible solid tip with small-diameter guides; the go-to model for slow-bite conditions at standard coastal depths.
Single-piece bait model for deep dotera over 100m. Max 200g vertical / 300g dotera; handles lines exceeding 200m out. Torque-forward blank absorbs tidal load at the belly while the butt manages large madai runs. Large guides to manage jellyfish fouling.
Single-piece, removable-grip bait model. Developed for high-pressure Seto Inland Sea conditions. Max 100g vertical / 130g dotera. Full-parabolic bend with no stiff nodes; designed to hold bites passively while the angler focuses on retrieve speed. Small-diameter sensitivity-first guides.
Single-piece bait model made for dotera drift in depths under 100m. Handles up to 160g vertical / 200g dotera. Larger guides to shed jellyfish; stiffer belly and powerful butt vs. The L model to hook fish that bite hard at mid-water on baitfish.
