Japanese area trout (管理釣り場, kanri tsuribaba) series from Palms, designed specifically for stocked-pond or managed trout fisheries, a highly developed discipline in Japan where anglers target rainbow, brook, and other trout in enclosed fishing parks using sub-2g micro lures. The Egeria Area Performance serves mid-level competition and serious recreational anglers in this genre; it sits above entry-level area rods but below Palms' top tournament blanks. Blanks use a carbonology-style X-wrap reinforcement that increases torsional rigidity, critical for detecting the soft, barely perceptible takes of wary stocked trout while delivering control during runs in confined water.
The cross-wound carbon sheet achieves a balance of tracking (tip follow-through for hook set) and load capacity that straight-lay blanks do not. Priced around ¥18,800–19,300, the series sits in the middle tier of the Japanese area rod market. Weights of 72–74g are competitive for a finished rod in this class. Four models across casting and spinning formats: ETGC-60UL (6'0" casting, UL, 1/32–3/16 oz) for baitcaster-based area technique; ETSS-511UL (5'11" spinning, UL, 1–4 lb / 1/32–3/32 oz) as the short-range precision option; ETGS-60UL (6'0" spinning, XUL) and ETGS-62UL (6'2" spinning, XUL) for maximum finesse presentations with 1–3 lb line.
XUL designations indicate sub-1g lure capability. The casting model is an outlier in the series, area baitcasting is a minority technique even in Japan.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model; 5'11" format suits small ponds or high-density fishing situations where casting distance is limited and precision placement matters more than reach.
The only baitcaster in the lineup; area casting technique is a niche within the niche of area trout fishing. Allows micro lure presentation styles not achievable with spinning gear, more common in advanced Japanese competition.
XUL designation; based on 1–3 lb line and sub-1g lures. Serves the most finesse-oriented presentations in managed ponds, spoons and minnows under 1.5g where blank mass is a limiting factor.
