The Prox EGINGER TIPRUN AIR-K FE is a boat eging spinning rod built specifically for the tiprun (tip-run) technique, a Japanese boat squid method using heavy egi (40–60 g) that are bounced vertically or at steep angles to trigger squid in mid to deep water. The series is made for boat anglers made for squid (primarily surume ika and similar species) at depths that demand heavier lures than shore eging. The high-sensitivity solid carbon tip, painted with a fluorescent white and orange indicator section, allows visual bite detection at range and depth.
(JDM series; "tiprun" = tip-run eging technique, "AIR-K" = Air-K guide series, "FE" = model designation.) Both blanks feature Fuji Air-K K-frame guides, which reduce wind-induced line wrapping during the vertical jigging stroke, a recurring problem in boat settings with crosswinds. The solid glass tip provides the flex needed to absorb the sharp tap-and-drop action of tiprun without pulling lures away from striking squid. The butt section is stiff enough to load and bounce heavy egi at depths beyond 50 m. Both models are 6'7" spinning rods on a 2-piece construction.
The lineup differentiates solely by power: ETRAKF66M (M) and ETRAKF66MH (MH), both at an identical 6'7" length. The medium model suits moderate depths and lighter egi within the tiprun range; the medium-heavy provides more authority for working lures at greater depth or in strong current where additional blank stiffness is needed to maintain lure contact and execute the sharp hop action that triggers squid.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Medium power, the softer of the two, suited to moderate depths and slightly lighter tiprun egi. The more forgiving blank tip extends the bite window as squid grab and release quickly. Appropriate when squid are holding at shallower stations or in calmer conditions.
Medium-heavy power for deeper drifts and stronger current where maintaining lure contact with a heavier egi demands more blank stiffness. The stiffer tip still provides visual strike indication but reduces the "parachute" effect on the drop.
