The Prox GUSSY SE is a hole-fishing (anatsuri) rod series designed for made for rockfish, primarily kasago (marbled rockfish/scorpionfish) and similar bottom-dwelling species, by lowering small jigs, shrimp rigs, or live bait into rock crevices and holes from a jetty, breakwater, or rocky shore. "Gussy" (ガッシー) is informal Japanese shorthand for kasago. The rod suits entry-level to intermediate anglers who fish compact shore structure where a short, portable rod is necessary for accurate vertical presentation.

(JDM series; "SE" = Special Edition.) Blanks use flexible glass-fiber material instead of carbon, which is standard for hole-fishing rods: glass provides the forgiving, parabolic bend that reduces break-offs when fish are hauled up from tight structure, and its durability tolerates the abrasion of rock-edge contact. Both models accept spinning and baitcasting reels, giving the angler flexibility in reel choice. All Fuji guides are fitted. A crossbag and tip guard cover are included as standard.

The VCGSS designation adds the SE upgrade tier to the prior VCGS models. The series organizes by length only: VCGSS70 at 2'4" and VCGSS100 at 3'3". Both are ultra-short relative to conventional rods, these lengths are specialized for slipping a rod tip into rock gaps and crevices where a longer blank would be unworkable. The 70 is for the tightest spots; the 100 provides marginally more reach when fish are holding slightly deeper or when casting a small distance is needed.

A closer look at notable models.

VCGSS70 Spinning · 2'4"

At 2'4" the shortest production hole rod in the Prox lineup at the time. Built for the tightest rock crevices where any additional length creates leverage problems. Glass blank absorbs shock from sudden lunges by hard-fighting rockfish in confined spaces.

VCGSS100 Spinning · 3'3"

The 3'3" model provides enough additional reach to work lures into deeper fissures or to manage line over a rock lip. Still ultra-short by any conventional standard; glass construction identical to the 70 model.
