KAWAHAGI GAME AIR-K SE

The Prox KAWAHAGI GAME AIR-K SE is a dedicated boat baitcasting rod series for kawahagi (thread-sail filefish, Stephanolepis cirrhifer), a technically demanding Japanese boat species prized for its ability to steal bait without registering a conventional bite. The rod is specialized for the precise jig-and-drop technique used when made for kawahagi over rocky bottom, where reading the subtle rod-tip signal that distinguishes a kawahagi "touch" from tide pressure is the central skill. Target angler: experienced Japanese boat angler specializing in kawahagi.

(JDM series; "kawahagi" = filefish, "AIR-K" = Fuji Air-K guide system, "SE" = Special Edition.) Both models feature a glass solid tip, standard in kawahagi rods, which provides the visual and tactile sensitivity to detect the fish's characteristic nibble. The tip is painted with a fluorescent indicator to aid visual bite detection on the water. Fuji Air-K K-frame guides reduce wind interference during the delicate rod-tip work inherent to kawahagi fishing. The center-cut 2-piece construction keeps the rod portable while maintaining blank consistency.

Both models are 5'11" (180 cm) baitcasting rods. The lineup splits by power only: KWGAKS18M (M) and KWGAKS18MH (MH), both at 5'11". The medium-power model is suited to lighter jig-head rigs and subtler presentations when kawahagi are finicky; the medium-heavy provides more backbone for working heavier sinkers in deeper water or stronger current, and for driving hook sets when the fish is detected.
