Tailwalk AJIST SD is a JDM ajing rod series built for aji (horse mackerel) fishing, a Japanese light-tackle saltwater technique using tiny jigs (0.5–5g), soft plastics, and micro lures on extremely light PE line from piers, harbors, and jetties. The AJIST SD is Tailwalk's standard-grade ajing series, positioned below the premium TZ series. Blanks use 40T ultra-high elastic carbon with a 30T carbon solid tip. The solid tip design is essential for ajing, it transmits subtle feedback from the jig through the water column and registers the soft initial contact of aji bites.

Fuji SKSS reel seat integrates carbon pipe and EVA for weight reduction. Fuji SiC ring guides deliver durability and thermal performance suited to PE line. The series achieves up to 39% weight reduction compared to previous AJIST generations, at approximately 44g, the rod is light enough for extended one-finger grip during micro-jig manipulations. Seven models, all spinning, from 4'7" to 8'4". Four shorter models (4'7"–6'3") carry SL (Super Light) designation, made for harbor and close-range applications where compact rod length and direct feel are priorities.

Two longer models (6'8" and 7'2") are TT designation, a tip-tuned configuration suited to longer casts and more open-water presentations. The 8'4" float model is specialized for float fishing for aji, a distinct technique requiring a long, soft rod for float control instead of jig manipulation.

A closer look at notable models.

S47/SSL Spinning · 4'7"

Shortest model in the lineup. 4'7" is an extremely compact length for ajing, suited to fixed-point jigging from a sitting position on a pier or inside a narrow harbor. Direct feel at close range; minimal casting distance.

S63/SL Spinning · 6'3" · UL

Longest SL model before the series transitions to TT. At 6'3", it balances harbor-range casting with the direct-feel characteristics of the short SL rods. A practical all-around choice for pier anglers who need some reach without full-length commitment.

S72/TT Spinning · 7'2" · L

TT (tip-tuned) model at 7'2". The longer length improves casting distance for open-harbor or jetty fishing where aji school at range. TT designation suggests the tip is tuned differently from the SL models for longer-range sensitivity.

S84/TT FLOAT Spinning · 8'4" · F action

Float-specific model, purpose-distinct from the jig models. The 8'4" length and float designation suit sabiki-style or small-float aji presentations where line mending and float control require a longer rod. Not interchangeable with the jig-focused models.
