The AJIST TZ New Generation is Tailwalk's flagship ajing rod series, specialized for ajing, the Japanese light-line lure technique made for aji (horse mackerel) from breakwaters, piers, and rocky coastlines using jig heads of 0.5–5g with ultralight braided or fluorocarbon lines. This is a specialized technique where detecting 'scratchy' bites through the rod blank, not via line movement, is the defining skill requirement. Target angler is the experienced Japanese light-game angler seeking the clearest possible bite feedback at sub-1g jig weights. Blanks combine super high-elasticity carbon with 40-ton carbon in high ratio, topped with a 30-ton carbon solid tip on S56/SL through S70/SL models and a tubular tip on the S76/TT.
The 'Feedback Booster Technology', a deliberate hole at the butt end, channels vibrations from tip to hand. Fuji titanium-frame Torzite ring guides (lightest in the Fuji lineup) are fitted throughout, all-Torzite from tip to butt with AT-series butt guide. Kevlar fiber composite in the butt section reduces torsion and compression. The '24 model' achieves approximately 25% weight reduction over the prior generation at equivalent lengths. DPS carbon pipe reel seat minimizes grip weight. Rod weights range 55–70g across the lineup. Five spinning models, 5'6"–7'6". The four SL (solid tip) models use 30-ton carbon solid tips; the S76/TT switches to a tubular tip for deeper detection of subtle mid-water current changes.
All models are 2-piece with spigot ferrules reinforced by carbon tape instead of epoxy and thread. The S56/SL and S60/SL share longer solid tips (380mm) for close-range sensitivity; S66/SL and S70/SL use shorter solid tips (260mm) for long-distance feedback. S76/TT is the only model rated to 1–4 lb and max 8g, stepping above the 1–3 lb / max 4–5g ceiling of the others.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model with the longest solid tip (380mm). Designed for extremely close-range port fishing, lighthouse footing, narrow inlets, where delicate jig head control under 1g and sub-tip sensitivity are paramount. The short length aids rod tip discipline in confined spaces.
Long-reach solid-tip model with shorter 260mm solid section. Suited to distant migratory routes or open offshore breakwater walls where fish sit beyond casting range of shorter rods. Maintains the same max 5g / 1–3 lb spec as the S66/SL.
Only tubular-tip and longest model. The tubular construction shifts sensitivity character vs. Solid tip, better for detecting subtle mid-water lateral movement instead of pure tip-load bites. Rated to max 8g, enabling micro-metal jig presentations at distance or in current. Heavier line class (to 4 lb) supports this.
