The Bay Mixx SSD is Tailwalk's multi-environment inshore spinning series made for anglers fishing seabass (suzuki), flatfish, and light pelagics from shore, small boats, kayaks, or belly boats in Japanese coastal waters. The 'SSD' designation indicates a focus on soft plastic presentations, the fast action tips load well for twitching and swimming soft baits but the series handles hard baits too. Target technique is lure fishing with medium to medium-heavy jig heads, small swimbaits, and metal jigs.
High-density carbon fiber blanks with fast action throughout. The blank flex profile is described as bending smoothly to promote accurate casts and enhance lure action on retrieve. Guide spacing is set to handle braided, fluorocarbon, and nylon lines without guide wrap issues. Weight at the S69ML is 88g, light enough for extended casting sessions. This is a mid-tier JDM series with quality components but not the top-end titanium-frame guide sets found in premium Japanese spinning lines.
All five models are spinning, 6'9"–7'6". Power runs L through M. The L model (S69L) handles the lightest jig heads; S69ML and S72ML cover the bread-and-butter ML applications; S72M and S76M step up for larger soft baits and metal jigs to roughly 40g. Casting models is absent. Longer models (7'2", 7'6") give casting distance from shore or kayak; shorter 6'9" models favor boat fishing or confined casting situations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Lightest-rated model with no specified lure floor noted. Suited to micro-jig presentations and light-line finesse work for wary fish in clear water. The most delicate option in an otherwise ML–M dominated lineup.
Longest and heaviest-rated model. The 7'6" length maximizes casting distance from shore or elevated platforms. Handles metal jigs and larger soft plastic rigs at the top of the series lure range.
