The Tailwalk Tip-bang SSD is a mid-tier Japanese boat-eging series for tiprun squid fishing, positioned below the premium TZ in Tailwalk's lineup hierarchy (SSD = lower grade than TZ in their naming). Like the TZ, it serves aori squid from boats using the tiprun method with heavier egi. The SSD tier uses the same solid-tip philosophy and visible tip coloring but without the Torzite/titanium guide specification. The manufacturer notes it is delicate compared to conventional tiprun rods, not for aggressive rod-work techniques.
Blanks are high-elasticity carbon with a slim profile. The solid tip is colored light pearl grey with fluorescent orange guide thread for polarized-glass visibility, consistent across the SSD range. Guide rings are standard SiC instead of TORZITE. Reel seat design mirrors the TZ series but with less exotic hardware. A key functional split in this lineup is the -DEEP suffix: models labeled DEEP carry more lure weight capacity (appear to be the heavier jig, deeper-water models), while the plain /SL models are lighter-jig shallow/medium-depth options.
Six spinning models cover 6'0"–7'0". The S60L is the lightest and shortest standard model. The three -DEEP variants (S65M/SL-DEEP, S610M/SL-DEEP, S66MH/SL-DEEP) are purpose-rated for heavier egi and deeper drops. The S65ML/SL is the standard all-rounder. The S70H/SL-DEEP at H power is the heaviest model in the series, designed for strong current, deep water, or very heavy jig loads.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The lightest-power entry at 6'0" L; serves shallow-water or light-jig tiprun scenarios. The compact length suits smaller boats and light presentations where the heavier DEEP models would be overgunned.
The sole H-power model and the heaviest-capacity rod in the lineup. The -DEEP designation and H power indicate use in deep water or strong current where heavier egi weights are needed to reach bottom.
