Bigwater Stand Up Conventional Rod

The Ugly Stik Bigwater Stand Up Conventional Rod is designed for offshore big-game fishing from a fighting belt or stand-up harness, made for large pelagics and bottom species such as bluefin and yellowfin tuna, marlin, large grouper, and shark. The 'stand-up' designation refers to the short-blank, powerful-butt construction suited to two-handed vertical or pumping fights, not rod-holder trolling. Target angler is a serious offshore boat fisher who needs durability at a moderate price point.

Construction uses Ugly Tech graphite-fiberglass hybrid for impact resistance; reel seats are PacBay aluminum; some models use PacBay roller guides to reduce line friction under sustained heavy loads. Grips are EVA. All models have an aluminum gimbal with cover for harness and fighting belt use. Blank weights and lengths are deliberately short (5'6"–6') to concentrate lifting leverage. The lineup differentiates by line class (30–130 lb) instead of technique, all using the same platform.

Five casting models in three line classes: 30–50 lb (two 6' H models), 50–80 lb (two 6' H models), and 80–130 lb (one 5'6" XH). Within each line class, the naming suffix indicates material differentiation, one model uses roller guides, the other standard Ugly Tuff guides. The 80–130 lb XH is the heaviest, specifically for large shark or marlin-class fish on heavy conventional gear. Spinning models is absent.
