The Ugly Stik Carbon Salmon Steelhead Casting Rod is made for drift, float, and side-drifting anglers made for Pacific salmon (Chinook, coho) and winter/summer-run steelhead from rivers and larger streams. The "Carbon" designation marks a departure from Ugly Stik's traditional graphite-fiberglass composite construction, this series uses 24-ton 100% graphite blanks, making it lighter and more sensitive than older Ugly Stik lines while retaining the brand's reputation for durability. Per brand marketing testing claims, it is 50% stronger and 30% lighter than competing rods at similar price.
Construction centers on 24-ton graphite blanks with 2-piece design. Guides are one-piece stainless steel Ugly Tuff frames (no inserts to pop out), a common failure point on river rods in rocky conditions. Handle is a golf-style full rear cork grip with an oversized carbon-fiber foregrip, intended for two-handed casting leverage common in float and drift techniques. Action across the lineup is Moderate (M), suited to absorbing the headshakes of large salmon and cushioning light hooks. Four 2-piece casting rods span three lengths (9', 9'6", 10'6") and three power ratings.
The 9' MH (USCBCASS902MH) is the versatile mid-range option. Two 9'6" variants offer M and H power to cover lighter side-drift presentations versus heavy sinker rigs or large plugs. The 10'6" H model extends reach for longer drifts or wide-water bank fishing. Spinning counterparts in this batch, spinning variants are a separate product is absent.
