Spinning rod series from Ugly Stik built specifically for Pacific and Great Lakes salmon and steelhead fishing, drift presentations, float/bobber rigs, casting weighted lures, and light side-drifting. The series fits anglers who want a rod that handles the sustained pressure of large fish on river systems without the fragility concerns of high-modulus graphite blanks. Priced accessibly relative to comparable steelhead-specific series. Blanks are 24-ton 100% graphite using Ugly Stik's Ugly Tech construction, a departure from the traditional fiberglass/graphite hybrid of the original Ugly Stik, moving the series toward lighter weight and greater sensitivity while retaining toughness.
Solid graphite tip for extra sensitivity. Stainless steel Ugly Tuff one-piece guides eliminate insert pop-out failure, which is a practical advantage in cold-weather river fishing. Golf-style full rear grip and carbon fiber foregrip. 7-year manufacturer warranty. Models confirmed from major U. S. Retailers. Six spinning models covering a significant length range: 7'6" M Fast, 8'6" MH Fast, 9' M Moderate, 9'6" M Moderate-Fast, 10'6" M Moderate-Fast, and 10'6" ML Moderate. Powers are M and MH (plus one ML) with actions ranging from Fast (shorter, river-wading models) to Moderate (longer, float/sidedrift models).
The progression from 7'6" to 10'6" maps to technique: shorter fast-action rods for wade fishing and casting, longer moderate-action rods for bobber setups and extended drift mending.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model, wading rod for confined river access, bank fishing tight runs, or casting plugs and spoons. Fast action aids hook-setting on side-presentations. Most versatile length for active river wading.
Only MH model in the series. Stepped-up power for larger Chinook salmon or heavier side-drifting rigs. Fast action at MH gives strong hook-set capacity in faster currents or with heavier split shot.
Long float rod configuration. 10'6" at M/MF is designed for centerpin-style mending and extended float drifts. The length is for line management and keeping line off the water in complex drift lanes.
