The Ugly Stik Carbon Spinning Rod is a value-tier graphite spinning series sold as the lightest and most sensitive offering in the Ugly Stik lineup, a departure from the brand's traditional fiberglass-heavy construction. It serves freshwater anglers who want the Ugly Stik warranty and brand durability familiarity at a lighter weight, suitable for bass, walleye, and general freshwater applications. Croix tier; it sits in the entry-to-mid range where price and durability accessibility are the primary drivers. Blanks are 24-ton graphite (Ugly Tech construction), lower modulus than performance rods, which provides resilience and reduces breakage risk.
The solid graphite tip is a carryover Ugly Stik design element, it adds tip durability at the cost of some sensitivity relative to hollow carbon tips at this spec. Ugly Tuff one-piece stainless steel guides eliminate insert pop-out, a practical advantage for anglers who fish braid. Fuji Soft-Touch reel seats and Winn split grips complete the component set. Some breakage complaints exist in the field, though the 10-year warranty provides a backstop. All 10 models are spinning, 5'6" to 7'3", ML through MH power, with fast or moderate-fast action.
The 5'6" L-power entry (562L) suits light panfish or trout applications; the 7'3" M-power entry (731M) handles general bass or walleye casting. Multiple 7'0" models (four models) reflect the most popular length for freshwater spinning. The two identically spec'd 662M and 701M paired entries, with "1" and "2" piece suffixes, cover the common angler split between one-piece performance preference and two-piece transportation needs.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest, lightest model. The 5'6" L-power moderate-fast configuration suits light trout and panfish applications or open-face ultralight use. The moderate-fast action provides some cushion for light-wire hooks, a practical choice at L power.
Longest model in the series. The 7'3" length at M power suits walleye and bass spinning applications where casting distance and reach matter. Fast action provides hookset responsiveness in line classes where 24-ton graphite has enough stiffness to drive the point.
