The 2025 Saltiga Dogfight is Daiwa's top-tier spinning rod series for big-game popping and casting, GT (giant trevally), large tuna, and other hard-fighting pelagics that are targeted by casting large poppers and stickbaits from the surface. The name refers to the chaotic surface-strike scenario common in offshore bluewater popping. Target angler is the experienced offshore casting angler who prioritizes blank recovery speed and casting distance with heavy lures (130–230g range) on PE 6–12 braid. Blanks are HVF graphite (High Volume Fiber, higher graphite density per resin volume), combined with X45 X FULLSHIELD bias wrapping that reinforces in multiple directions to increase recovery speed and reduce blank twist under casting load.
The design was developed using Daiwa's Expert Sense Simulation (ESS) computational analysis. A critical hardware detail is the Fuji RV stripper guide, specifically chosen to handle thick braid-to-leader connections (typically large-diameter fluorocarbon or monofilament shock leaders) passing through without jamming. Two-piece construction with V-Joint Alpha connection, making the rods transport-manageable for travel to remote popping destinations. Four spinning models only, descending in length from 8'4" to 7'2" as lure weight and line class increase.
Longer models (8'1" and 8'4") are rated for lighter jigs (130–160g) where longer stroke assists distance casting with lower line-class braid (PE 6–8); shorter models (7'2" and 7'6") handle heavier lures (200–230g) on PE 10–12 where power loading matters more than sweep distance. This inverse length/weight relationship is intentional and typical of popping rod design.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest and most powerful model, PE 12 max braid, 230g max lure weight. The heavy-PE short-stick configuration for bull GT work in tight situations, or massive poppers that need blank backbone to turn fish fast.
PE 10 / 200g model. A versatile popping length for most open-water GT and large yellowfin scenarios, enough sweep for distance, enough backbone for sustained pressure.
8'1" at PE 8 / 160g covers lighter popper work where distance casting is the priority. Longer stroke aids presenting smaller poppers and stickbaits across large bluewater surface feeds.
The lightest and longest model at PE 6 / 130g. Best suited for lighter-class popping, smaller tuna, large trevally, or situations where maximum casting distance with moderate lures is needed.
