The 24 Proteus Inshore is Daiwa's current-generation (2024) saltwater inshore rod series, designed for species like snook, speckled trout, redfish, tarpon, cobia, and calico bass across Gulf and West Coast environments. It covers a broad power range, ML through a heavy-side H, making it relevant to anglers fishing light to heavy inshore applications instead of a single-technique specialist lineup. All models are single-piece. Blanks use Daiwa's SVF Nanoplus high-volume fiber, low-resin construction: lighter and stiffer than standard HVF, with X45 bias carbon wrap or Braiding-X reinforcement to resist blank twist under fighting load.
Guides are Fuji Alconite rings in K-frame tangle-free guide trains. Handle combines cork and EVA grips with Daiwa's exclusive high-volume fiber wrap for grip in wet conditions. MSRP is $249.99 across the lineup. Limited lifetime warranty. The 11-model lineup includes 7 casting and 4 spinning, running 7'6" to 8'. A power gap exists in the batch data, the heavy-side models (PI76HFB/S, PI76MHFB/S, PI80HFB, PI80MHFB) handle 30–80 lb line and 2–8 oz lures, suggesting tarpon or nearshore applications instead of standard redfish/trout inshore work.
The lighter ML and M models (7'6", 8–25 lb) represent the more typical inshore tier. The PI80MXB is the only XF model and the only 8' M casting option, likely made for live-bait or popping applications.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
One of the heavy-duty models in the lineup. 55–80 lb line and 2–8 oz lure range moves well beyond standard inshore; this is a tarpon, large cobia, or nearshore jigging rod. The casting configuration with H power suggests live-bait presentations at anchor.
Lightest casting model in the series. 7'6" ML at 8–14 lb line covers standard light inshore work, trout, flounder, smaller redfish, with fast action for quick hooksets on finesse presentations. No URL listed; may be an independent dealer-exclusive variant.
Only regular (R) action model in the lineup. 7'10" MH with a slower action and 20–40 lb line is likely built for live or cut bait presentations where a parabolic bend cushions hooks instead of pulling them. Unusual combination in an otherwise fast-action series.
Only XF (extra-fast) model in the series. 8' M with XF action and 20–40 lb range suggests popping, jigging, or fast-retrieve presentations where immediate tip response is the goal. Longer length adds distance for fishing from flats boats or jetty structures.
