The Daiwa 25 Blackwing is a 2025-release saltwater popping rod series built for surface topwater presentations made for large pelagics, bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, giant trevally, and similar surface-feeding gamefish from offshore and nearshore boats. The '25' prefix denotes the 2025 model year. Target angler is the serious offshore boat popper who needs all-day castability with the backbone to stop and turn large fish. Blanks use Daiwa's HVF Nanoplus graphite, a high-fiber-density composite that reduces resin content for lower blank weight without sacrificing stiffness.
X45 bias carbon wrapping aligns fibers at 45 degrees to the blank axis, improving torsional resistance and accuracy under power casts. All models carry Fuji Tangle-Free SiC guides to prevent line wrap in windy open-water conditions. The series carries a 5-year limited warranty; MSRP is $449.99 per rod. All five are single-piece spinning rods. Five spinning models span 7'9"–8'2" across M to XH power. The 7'9" M (BW792MFS) is the lightest model, suited to smaller poppers and sustained casting.
The three 8'2" models, MH (BW822MHFS at 65 lb / 150 g), H (BW822HFS at 80 lb / 180 g), and XH (BW822XHFS), scale up for heavier lures and larger quarry. The 7'11" XH (BW7112XHRS) sits in a unique position: R action (Regular) instead of Fast, which is the only irregular model, likely intended for live-bait or chunking presentations alongside poppers.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Only Regular-action model in an otherwise Fast-action series. XH power combined with R action loads deep into the butt, unusual for a popping rod and suggests this model doubles as a big live-bait or chunking rod where lure flex is beneficial instead of snap-casting poppers.
Heaviest-rated Fast-action model at XH/F. Paired with the longest length in the series, it provides the maximum leverage for stopping very large bluefin or GT after the hook-up. The F action still preserves casting efficiency at XH power.
