The BLX Series Bass is Daiwa's refreshed Black Label lineup, introduced at ICAST 2019, made in Japan. It is a premium bass rod series ($399–$439 MSRP) based on two explicitly different blank philosophies and intended for technique-specific setups in competitive and serious recreational bass fishing. The target angler runs multiple rods and assigns each to a specific presentation. The series splits into SG (Sensitive Graphite) and LG (Limber Graphite) variants. SG rods use HVF Nanoplus carbon with 3DX cross-carbon honeycomb structure and X45 bias wrap, fast to extra-fast action, high stiffness for jig, worm, dropshot, and finesse techniques that require direct feel.
LG rods use the same Nanoplus base but with a formulation tuned to mimic fiberglass flex characteristics without the weight, moderate to moderate-fast action for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and bladed jigs where blank load-up improves casting and reduces treble-hook pullouts. Fuji SIC guides and proprietary cork-grip reel seat across both variants. Eight models split 4 spinning (all SG-designation) and 4 casting (SG and LG). Spinning models run 6'8"–6'10" in L and ML for finesse spinning.
Casting models span 7'–7'11" in ML through XH. The 7'11" XH casting (BLXSG7111XHXB) is the outlier, a punching/heavy-mat-flipping rod at the extreme of the lineup. The LG designation on BLXLG731MLFB and BLXLG741MHRB indicates crankbait and reaction-bait assignments.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Compact finesse spinning rod. The 2/32 oz floor signals a dropshot or micro-ned-rig application; 4–8 lb line is light-fluorocarbon or light-braid territory. Shorter than the two 6'10" spinning stablemates for tighter-cover finesse work.
LG blank with Fast action, unusual combination suggesting a lighter reaction-bait or jerkbait role where some tip sensitivity is needed alongside the forgiving LG bend. 1/7–7/8 oz range and ML power point to shallow jerkbaits and finesse swimbaits.
LG (Limber Graphite) construction with Regular action, the primary crankbait model. Parabolic load-up during a dive-and-pause retrieve cushions the hook connection; 7'4" length provides leverage for long cranking. 1/4–1.5 oz range covers shallow to mid-depth divers.
The heavy-cover tool of the series. Nearly 8 ft of XH SG blank is standard configuration for punching heavy mats, flipping laydowns, or fishing large swimbaits. The longest rod in the lineup by several inches.
