Chinning X is the entry rung of Daiwa's chinning range, below the base Silver Wolf and the MX, SX and EX tiers. The build is deliberately plain and durable: Braiding X carbon tape wrapped in an X pattern over the butt section to suppress twist under load, a downlock reel seat for hold, a tapered grip that lets the hand touch the blank, and stainless guides. Tips are tubular rather than solid, tuned soft enough to load light rigs and to absorb the head-shaking runs a seabream makes at close range. Two-piece lengths run about 7'6" to 7'10", lure ratings 2 to 18 g, PE 0.2 to 1.0, nylon 2 to 12 lb, blanks around 122 to 125 g at 88 to 91 percent carbon.
The models are spinning. That is the exception in this family. Higher Silver Wolf tiers lean baitcasting because free-rig fishing is a controlled-fall technique a thumbed clutch handles better, but at entry level a spinning reel removes backlash from the learning curve and casts 2 g finesse sinkers without a tuned brake.
The target is kurodai, black seabream, taken on crab and shrimp soft plastics dragged and hopped across shell, mud and rubble in harbors and lower river reaches. The closest American parallel is sheepshead or redfish on soft plastics around oyster bar and pilings, where the strike is a change in weight rather than a hit.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 3 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
